WEEK 2: DATA MODELING: Creating Tables, Forms, Queries and Reports

Data modeling is the process of creating a visual representation of either a whole information system or parts of it to communicate connections between data points and structures.

WHAT IS TABLE?

A table is an arrangement of information or data, typically in rows and columns, or possibly in a more complex structure. Tables are widely used in communication, research, and data analysis.

WHAT IS FORMS?

A form is a structured document with a fixed arrangement. Forms are used to collect the required information in a logical, meaningful fashion for communication and pass to another entity.

WHAT ARE THE 4 TYPES OF DATABASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS?

Ø Relational database.

Ø Object-oriented database.

Ø Hierarchical database.

Ø Network database.

EXAMPLE OF FORM

Ø Vacation Application Form

Ø On-boarding Form

Ø Purchase Order Form

Ø Online Agreement Form

QUERIES

A query can either be a request for data results from your database or for action on the data, or for both. A query can give you an answer to a simple question, perform calculations, combine data from different tables, add, change, or delete data from a database.

REPORTS

A report is a database object that comes in handy when you want to present the information in your database for any of the following uses: Display or distribute a summary of data. Archive snapshots of the data. Provide details about individual records. Create labels.
